Are you an avid show-goer? Are you constantly looking for concerts in the Hamilton area? Do you like supporting local artists and venues? Do you find yourself too lazy to do the research? We’ve been there. That’s why we started ‘Steel Jams’.

With help from our music department, we’ll be keeping you up to date on some great shows happening right here in The Hammer. This month, music volunteer Ibti Dewan and Music Director Erica Commisso have picked a handful of shows they’d love for you to check out. Here are your hand-picked listings for the month of December.

Thursday December 5th, 2019

Miles from Nowhere. @ This Ain’t Hollywood, Hamilton, ON

Hamilton-based Miles Evans-Branagh, a.k.a. miles from nowhere., will be showcasing his new Indie-Soul project at the release of his new self-titled EP. Miles recently took part in Canadian Music Week and opened for Crowbar among a variety of local performers. This multi-instrumentalist songwriter is an emerging artist which you should definitely be on the look out for!

Patiohawk w/ Silvertone Hills + The Bandicoots @ Mills Hardware, Hamilton, ON

Patiohawk, from Toronto's West End, boldly distorts the alternative rock sounds we’ve come to know and love. Guided by singer/songwriter Liam Colbert’s velvety tones, it’s extremely impressive how the band creates a sophisticated union of vintage and modern sounds that underscores every track off their new album. Definitely worth checking out!

TIM BAKER Fall 2019 Tour with special guests The Franklin Electric and Evangeline Gentle @ New Vision United Church, Hamilton, ON.

$30, Doors at 7:00PM, Show at 8:00PM, All Ages.

After the hiatus of Hey Rosetta!, Tim Baker, the band's frontman, began his solo journey. His debut solo album, Forever Overhead, shows his inspiration from artists of the ‘70’s with his poetic lyricism and sonic appeal. With featured guests The Franklin Electric and Evangeline Gentle, this is one talented bill.

Beamer, a.k.a. Lawren Helder, is an electronic pop artist based out of Hamilton, ON. With acts like Cue Crickets, Elise Arsenault and Jordanna Laman on the bill, this is an evening that won’t disappoint.

Personal Fav: "I don't know where I'm going, Is that what it means to be free?”. On "Ride With Me" (released 2017), Helder touches on personal relationships and the hardships we find in letting go.

Made up of Damian Matthew (6-string bass), Robb Cappelletto (guitar) and Chino De Villa (drums), re.verse plays current and classic urban and world music with freedom…their style ranges anywhere from hop, soul and funk to house, trap, jazz and more. Their return to Sous Bas is highly anticipated - you don’t want to miss this one! Check out their SoundCloud for some recent recordings.

Little Nerves is an indie-soul band based in Niagara. As a collective, the four group members fuse their talents to blend bits and pieces of a variety of genres to ultimately create feel-good music. You won’t be disappointed!

Album Hit(s): "No Time Like The Present"

Personal Fav: "Paradise" is extremely catchy and definitely stays true to the artist's indie/neo-soul brand. It starts off slowly and builds – filled with guitar solos and vocal acrobatics flawlessly tackled without ever sounding overdone. This one definitely makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
