Cancer-induced pain is experienced by up to 50% of patients with cancer. While traditional painkillers may be effective in reducing this pain, they come with many side effects. Rob Ungard, a 4th year PhD Candidate in the Medical Sciences Graduate Program, is examining the role of a specific protein (system x antiporter) overexpressed on cancer cells which, when inhibited, may not only reduce pain, but side effects experienced as well. Tune in to learn more about the molecular techniques and animal work that Rob conducts and his interests in science communication and mentorship!
